Business Process Reengineering

Supply chain mapping is an extremely powerful toolbox that can be used as part of any business process reengineering exercise or process management strategy. Our consultants will discuss your requirements and then use proprietary software to undertake any of the following that are applicable:

  • Network mapping
  • Inventory mapping
  • Process mapping

Network Mapping

Network mapping allows us to draw a map of your supply chain to identify and analyse:

  • Plant capacities
  • Inventory costs
  • Replenishment frequencies
  • Lead times

Using these maps, areas for focus are then often readily visible.

Inventory Mapping

Inventory mapping allows us to map where the inventory is in your entire supply network and its purpose. These simple maps often identify:

  • Large inventory buffers on each side of organisational divides.
  • Large inventories in non-value adding areas.

Process Mapping

Process mapping allows us to map internal and cross-organisational processes to identify potential causes for inventory and inefficiencies identified in discussions or one of the above mapping techniques. This can then be used to formulate a business process reengineering strategy.

For further information, please read our business process reengineering case study or download a recent conference paper by Mike Bernon entitled "Application of Supply Chain Time and Cost Mapping Techniques" that was presented at The Logistics Research Network Conference, 2005.
